The Manor at the Grange

Escape to the countryside for a taste of tranquility in a traditional Grange and its Manor, dating back to the 16th Century. You’ll arrive along tree-lined country lanes that meander through picturesque villages, just a stone’s throw from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, and the Cotswold villages.

The Manor House has been carefully curated by its loving owners, who are eager to share its history. The land itself was mentioned in the Domesday Book land survey of 1086 and was connected to the 12th Century Bordesley Abbey. When Henry VIII ordered destruction of monasteries in 1538, the Abbey was demolished and the Grange was sold to a noble family. The Manor house was then built in the 16th century and has been modernized in each century. The walled garden still features elements from the original Abbey, and research suggests the manor was originally surrounded by a moat.

As you enter the Manor, you're greeted by original wooden beams, flagstone floors, and rich turquoise walls. A beloved rocking horse keeps watch nearby. Cheerful colors and art carry across the many different gathering rooms on the ground floor, including a sunny Garden Room, elegant Dining Room with fireplace, and a cosy Library with purple velvet and blue leather Chesterfield sofas. The spacious Kitchen showcases a traditional cast-iron AGA for radiant, old-world cooking. It opens into a bright, airy Orangery breakfast room, where doors can be flung open to the garden, or offer a cozy front-row seat to the rain.

In European style, the bedrooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors, where you’ll find six distinctly different bedrooms, each named with local character and each uniquely designed. These rooms feature old beams, quirky corners, and lovely upholstery handcrafted by the owners, with antique furnishings to maintain historic charm. Here, drifting off will come as easily as counting nearby sheep.

Step outside to the beautiful gardens, which include an herb garden planted for our use. Enjoy a casual tennis match or a walk through the wide lawns and walking trails on the property, before cooling off with a dip in the natural swimming lake or hot tub. As the evening sets in, we’ll craft Gin & Tonics on the back patio and cook together around the outdoor kitchen. The impressive celebration barn across the courtyard adds a touch of magic to this already delightful escape, serving as a dramatic setting for our indoor dining.
